Gallery Brain Awareness Week 2025

The 3rd edition of Brain Awareness Week at Erasmus University College was an unforgettable celebration of neuroscience, art, curiosity, and discovery! 🎨🎭👩‍🔬👨‍🔬🚀

Between the 10th and 15th of March, 2025, we had more than 450 visitors, from elementary school kids, high school students, and bachelor's students of different programs from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, to the curious minds of Rotterdam citizens, we had guests between 6 and 80 years old 😍. All joined the enthusiastic researchers and speakers who were part of the different events we had between the 10th and 15th of March across Rotterdam—from EUC, Erasmus MC, Club Centraal, Sophia Kinderziekenhuis, and the Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam—to explore the wonders of the brain.

With engaging talks, neuro-artist performances, hands-on workshops, interactive tours, and thought-provoking discussions, The Brain and Arts was truly the week's topic!

A huge THANK YOU to all the speakers who volunteered, and attendees who made this event such a success. Your passion and enthusiasm continue to inspire and shape the future of (neuro and brain)science and education.

Kid's day

The kids' day during Brain Awareness Week 2025 at Sophia Kinderziekenhuis was a fantastic day for all the kids who visited us! A day full of amazing and fun activities to learn about the brain! The day ended with a talk by Sadaf Soloukey and the signing of her book Darya en de Denkmachine! 🧠

Student's day at EUC

On Wednesday, 14th of March, EUC welcomed students from different high schools, Hogeschool, and EUR faculties to explore how scientists study the brain and participate in a brain dissection! 🧠

Beer, Brain, and Arts

A group of Neuroscientists shared their different artistic talents on Thursday, 13th, at Cafe Centraal Rotterdam! Storytelling, juggling, poetry, and music told the audience how art has been an important part of their careers! 🧠

BAW at Natuurhistorisch Museum

We had an amazing closing of Brain Awareness Week at Natuurhistorisch Museum with several talks, guided visits to the Neuro labs at EMC, and different stands! 🧠

Monday 10th: Optical aids for art perception

Dr. Maarten Wijntjes from Delft University of Technology gave an insightful talk on Optical Aids for Art Perception, followed by an engaging panel discussion

Wednesday 12th: Creative Intelligence: Brains vs Computers

Dr. Mario Negrello, assistant professor at Erasmus MC. He will talked about the foundations of creative intelligence, the neural mechanisms behind creativity, and how cognitive processes in the brain compare to artificial systems.

Friday 14th: The Beatles & the Brain

The Beatles have provided the soundtrack to my life, in the sense that any situation can trigger a Beatles song in my mind, which triggers the next one, and so on. In this talk he explained this in terms of memory, habit formation and association.
